Junko Sakimura — Marimba & Cimbalom

Graduated from The National College of Music and Percussion Department. She studied marimba under Akiko Suzuki, Tomoko Kusakari, Shinichi Ueno and Tomoyuki Okada and Cimbalom under Yasuko Kano. After graduating, begininng with a recital in 1990, she worked vigorously, including the Japanese premier for Stravinsky’s Renard, Kurtag’s “Grabstein für Stephan”, “Concertante”, and Costello’s “IL SONGO”. Outside of Japan, she participated in the 3rd World Tsinbarom Congress (1995) held in Slovakia as a representative, appeared on Slovak TV, was featured in the Pravda newspaper, and subsequently performed in Germany, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, Hungary and China.

In addition, she appeared with Seiji Ozawa and the Saito Kinen Orchestra Concert “Dutilleux/ The Mystery of the Moment”, which was broadcast nationwide on NHK.  She has performed with major orchestras including New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, and the Nagoya Philharmony. From 2008 to 2009, she was in charge of BGM for Dai-ichi Life’s social contribution tv commercials and also participated in albums by singer-songwriter Shione Yukawa.
