A message from Thierry Fischer
Full of mysterious longing and pain, Wagner’s Prelude to Act I of Parsifal is unmistakably one of the most beautiful moments this composer created. Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9 dramatically carries us into the depths of hell, then leads us to the gates of heaven and finally eternal peace. Bruckner dedicated this symphony to God; it remained unfinished at his death. Dutilleux’s Violin Concerto, L’Arbre des songes, evokes nature. The structure of this poetic work is modelled on a tree, with each theme representing a branch. Though not related to one another, they all connect to the principal theme, the tree’s trunk.
