Piazzolla: Bordel 1900

Do you know the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla? He studied composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, but it was not until 1980, when he was 59, that he earned enough to write the music he wanted for the first time in his life. That year, he began writing ambitious multi-movement works. One was Histoire du tango, a four-movement work for flute and guitar that traces tango's evolution at thirty-year intervals. Piazzolla himself supplied programme notes. Please enjoy its first movement, Bordel 1900, in an ensemble performance with flautist Hidehiko Watase. For a detailed commentary on the work, see here.
